Senior living leadership in the Inland Northwest

Since 1960, Rockwood has been elevating senior living in Spokane with a mission to provide lifelong vitality and independence to all of our residents. Part of what sets Rockwood apart is our dedication to being a Life Plan community, our local ownership and leadership, our nonprofit status, and our ongoing commitment to ensuring the well-being of our residents.

Our philosophy

Everything we do at Rockwood is driven by an uncompromising dedication to resident well-being. Our mission—to create caring places that enrich the lives of seniors—is purposefully specific. By focusing on enhancing the lives of our residents, we’ve achieved unity of purpose both in the day-to-day operations of our staff and in our long-term planning for our communities. Being person-centered isn’t a catchphrase or marketing language to us, it’s core to what we do and it’s why our two communities exist.

Our staff places a premium on active listening and interaction so that we can better get to know and adapt to each resident and their needs. By really connecting with residents and families, we form important bonds that facilitate a more caring environment. And we take pride in knowing that we have served three generations of families, and we look forward to the generations to come.

Why are we a nonprofit Life Plan community?

Rockwood’s status as a nonprofit Life Plan community is core to our mission-driven approach to senior living. Find out how it guides us day to day, and why we believe it’s the best way to improve the lives of residents.

Whitworth University and Rockwood

Rockwood at Whitworth is the first and only university-affiliated senior community in Spokane. And we believe that it will prove to be one of the defining aspects of our community. Whitworth University is a highly ranked private university, with recognition from U.S. News & World Report, The Princeton Review, and more. Founded as Whitworth College in 1890, today the university offers more than 100 undergraduate majors and programs along with multiple doctoral programs and adult bachelor’s degree programs on its 200-acre campus.

Rockwood at Whitworth residents enjoy discounted rates to take University courses, access to the amazing Whitworth University library, preferred access to athletic and performing arts events, and can even access the University’s dining venues. This relationship between our community and Whitworth University makes the very best of the college experience accessible to our residents at any time. For those for whom lifelong learning is an important part of continuing to grow, it’s an unmatched benefit to being a resident at Rockwood at Whitworth.

Rockwood Residents Foundation

Philanthropy has always been core to the mission of Rockwood. In 1990, a group of residents formed the Rockwood Residents’ Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that raises funds and governs the use of those funds across Rockwood’s communities. Follow the link below to learn more about the Foundation and how it impacts the lives of our residents.
